CAMPO’s ideal location—the first village you come to as you head up into the Valtartano—makes it a destination for pleasant and picturesque hikes, allowing visitors to explore lesser-known trails at the valley’s entrance.
In fact, the village is a natural panoramic terrace offering a view of the entire lower Valtellina and the southern end of Lake Como.
Let’s take a look at the activities this beautiful valley has to offer.
1. FRASNINO PARK – BIRDWATCHING
Just past the bridge is PARCO FRASNINO, a free public park with a shelter and restroom, a photo exhibition of the bridge construction, an exhibition of rural architecture models, bàait-1877 (a restored mountain hut), and a with rest areas, picnic spots, large wooden tables, and benches , meadows, and the starting point for easy and challenging trails of varying lengths difficulty + Crotto Frasnino (consortium kiosk).
Please note:
1) Birdwatching, observing birdlife from a vantage point above the mountain huts.
2) A loop that leads down to the Arched Dam (eastbound) or, alternatively, to the Old Frasnino Bridge (westbound), with a return hike up to the village (on easy trails, but with some exposed sections—please exercise caution).
2. THE INSTALLATION OF THE FOPP (along Trail 163) with the “Butterfly Trail” (by Orobie Valtellinesi Park) BUTTERFLY WATCHING
A gentle climb along the easy and safe cobblestone trail through the cool woods up to an elevation of1,322 m ; 45 min (follow Trail 163 to the Posa junction).
La Posa (in the local dialect) was a stop where farmers would rest to regain their strength. This isa public area equipped with benches, wooden tables, a barbecue, and a drinking fountain.
In the “Posa” area, you’ll also find information boards from the Orobie Valtellinesi Park describing the flat“Butterfly Trail” that crosses the Foppe mountain pasture.
The Rovedatti Bivouac is a small, self-managed mountain hut with panoramic views, open to all hikers. Located at 1,850 meters above sea level, it is accessible even in winter via snowshoes by crossing the Tibetan bridge.
Perched on a picturesque ridge overlooking Lake Como, it offers unique views of sunrises and sunsets of rare beauty.
